Our science is guided by a simple principle: everyone deserves the chance to live a full, emotionally healthy life. The goal of our lab is to understand how changes in brain wiring shape mood, motivation, and vulnerability to psychiatric illness and how these changes can be reversed. We study how sensory experiences, pharmacological agents, and neuromodulation engage specific neural circuits to drive plasticity in deep brain regions implicated in depression. Rather than relying on invasive or non-selective stimulation, our work aims to leverage natural patterns of neural activity to induce precise and predictable circuit change. By combining systems neuroscience, physiology, and behavior, we aim to develop non-invasive strategies that restore healthy brain function.
